Cats are ideal pets for any age and lifestyle

Chair CatWouldn’t it be great to create your ideal pet? A pet that is loving, affectionate, and great with kids, an ideal companion for the family of four or more or even just for one? Make your dreams a reality and adopt a cat! Cats are the most popular pet in the USA and they are America’s #1 Companion.

Cats are entertaining, affectionate, and athletic and need not be taken out for walks (but they can be…). This makes them ideal for most any lifestyle. Cats are great family pets and wonderful companions for couples, singles and seniors. Studies have even shown that stroking a cat helps to reduce blood pressure and stress. Like any pet, however, they require the proper care and a return of affection by their human caregivers, so be sure to take them to the veterinarian-at least once a year to help them stay healthy and happy!

If you have a cat you have made the right decision and have saved a precious life. If you know someone who is thinking about adding a pet to their family plan a trip to your local shelter this week to help them find the ideal pet- a cat. Endless love, playful antics and a companion for life-what are you waiting for? Find the purrfect cat near you at petfinder.com

CATalysta**

Linae Carrington, BS, MBA, is the Executive Assistant of CATalyst Council and featured CATalysta. Linae has worked in the nonprofit sector for Linae Carringtonseveral years and continues to bring enthusiasm and dedication to her position. Linae was introduced to CATalyst by the Executive Director Dr. Jane Brunt. Linae says, "I have always had the pleasure of working in positions that required me to be the voice of those who could not speak for themselves. Prior to CATalyst I had never worked with an organization that advocated for changing the perception of and healthcare received by cats. I was shocked by the statistics and proud to be part of many initiatives around feline health and welfare." CATalyst Council has given Linae the opportunity to work within an organization that understands the issues surrounding cats and she has made a conscious decision to positively impact the lives of cats.

Linae’s fondest memory of a cat is one that happened recently. While the right pet has yet to find their family, Linae is a CATalysta in her community. "I live in a fairly new development of homes and it is very rare to see cats or dogs roaming throughout the neighborhood. As I looked out of my window one morning I saw a kitten crossing the street. I thought maybe it was a neighbor’s kitten that somehow wondered off and was returning home. The next night as I turned on the porch light I saw 3 kittens walking back towards my neighbor’s house. I mentioned this to my neighbor who told me there were a group of kittens living on the side of a newly built home. When I went over there I was surprised to see four small kittens huddled together without their mother. Immediately the kittens became the responsibility of the neighborhood. Each of us took turns checking on the kittens every day. By the end of their stay at the "community nursery" they received a pink blanket, round the clock feedings and tons of attention from all us. It was such a delight to see how each of us began to care for the kittens and even looked forward to seeing them on the daily basis. When our local SPCA picked up the kittens last week they were ready to find the perfect home. Even though we miss them we will try to find the mother and have here spayed to prevent this from happening again.

Linae shares her home with her husband Gregory and their nine year old son Madison. Madison is a CATalysta in training who enjoys helping Linae, putting together presentation folders and other materials needed for CATalyst Council to continue to champion the cat!

CATegorical Care Tip

CATegorical CareLifestyle Choices
While life outdoors is more unpredictable and therefore (some might argue) more interesting for cats, it is also clearly more dangerous. Outdoors cats are at risk. Cars are at the top of the danger list. Some people think cats are so cunning that they don’t get hit by cars; unfortunately, that’s not true. Read More (PDF)
